Bio

Robert Snow

I’m just a twenty-something wannabe arts journalist who thinks someone out there might like to read what I think about things.

I was born in Clarenville, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada, but grew up in the province’s capital city of St. John’s. I became interested in movies and TV at a young age, and that soon came to include the way entertainment is made, from script to screen.

I discovered my love of writing in high school, where I also caught the theatre bug. I performed in outdoor productions of the works of Shakespeare with a local company and appeared in short productions of sketch comedy with my high school drama club.

I attended Memorial University of Newfoundland for my Bachelor of Arts, where I studied English literature, Classics, history and philosophy. While I was an undergrad, I also took a number of courses in film analysis and technical production. I especially enjoyed writing analytical essays on film, and I applied my interest in the theatre to working on productions of plays and short films organized with my classmates. Around this time, I also became fascinated by Internet culture, and began studying how the Internet shapes and spreads viral content.

When I graduated from Memorial, I decided that I could put my writing skills to work in journalism. I enrolled in the Master of Journalism program at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. That’s where I am right now, completing the first year of the two-year program.

My idea to start Professionally Incoherent came when I found that I wanted my own platform to share my ideas on all the things I’m passionate about. Through Professionally Incoherent, I’ve connected with writers and readers around the world, and I’ve used the site to teach undergraduate students about the basics of blogging.

I divide my time between studying in Ottawa and living with my family in Milton, Ontario. One day, I’d love to work as a professional film critic and arts & culture reporter, but for now, I’m building this site one post at a time.
